Pompeii
Pompeii was a Roman city destroyed by the eruprion of the volcano Vesuvius. The ancient city was uncovered and revealed to the modern world. The paintings on the walls of its theaters and porticos and villas are as bright and soft as in the ages long ago, when the inhabitants were obliged to flee so suddenly from their beautiful homes to escape the fire and the lava. Evidence seems to have discovered a synagogue of the libertines at Pompeii.
