Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost

Scribes from Jerusalem committed the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost when they imputed the miracles of Jesus and the work of the Spirit to Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. "All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation."

The Pharisees stood by the word of God but spiritually believed the father of lies. Jesus spoke the truth and manifested the power and authority of the Spirit of God. It was not the miracles that Jesus did that the Pharisees objected to, it was the power and the revelation of a new kind of knowledge of God which legalistic and conservative minds cannot fathom. The Pharisees were witnessing a Spirit that revealed a person of the Godhead that they could not understand. The masses were no longer following them, they were following Jesus and by ascribing the power of the Holy Spirit to Beelzebub, they were protecting their own ignorant views. The blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is committed every day by those who teach that spiritual gifts, speaking in tongues, prophecy and God's present move of restoration and revival are of the devil. The Pharisees of the church today still do not want the masses to understand the spiritual aspect that they are ignorant of any more than the Pharisees did then.

There are always those Christians that read these verses and think that they have committed the unpardonable sin and will fall into condemnation. Even believing that way would preclude one of condemnation. The devil will torment the mind with confusion and the child of God will fall into self doubt that he/she has fallen from grace in order to dilute the witness and obscure the message. Not to worry, it is those that have willfully committed these things and will not repent that fall into the danger of the penalties. God is willing to forgive but the blasphemy here is unforgivable because the hearts of those who uttered this type of blasphemy are hardened by remaining in the darkness of unbelief at the same time as they are being exposed to so much truth. Conservative faith is just that, conservative. Faith must be released abundantly for the darkness to be exposed to the light and until that happens, the self-righteous mind will compensate for the ignorance by thinking that the spirit of God is of the devil, simply because it is a spiritual truth which they have not experienced.

To those that have come to me thinking that they have committed the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost and that is unforgivable, in each case, the devil torments them. Believe me, you have not been given over to a reprobate mind or you would not be penitent. The idea of an unpardonable sin may be a scary one but it will not affect your salvation if repentance were involved. The Lord is coming soon to a holy church that has put away the evil and divisiveness of the past. Have you done that? If we were not allowed the release of repentance in our lives, this would not be possible for all of us.

I am glad that my math isn't so good or I might be tempted to count the times that I have told the Holy Spirit to shut up. Not in so many words but in attitude. But I know that Jesus loves me just like He does you and is not willing that any of us should perish. By thinking of Him and crying out to Him, He is helping you, but remember this, that what we sow, we also reap. By allowing yourself to go crazy, it is upon you to get right. Your standing with the Lord is just as it was at the beginning of your faith because it is not Him that moves, it is us. I go through the same things but I also realize that it is a constant thing in that we are to take up the cross of Jesus daily. That means we deny ourselves and ask forgiveness. The next step is to allow God to forgive us. If we do not accept that forgiveness, then we are denying the faith that He has done it, then doubt and unbelief of God's promises give us excuses to sin some more.

It has been suggested that the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost belongs to those who have tasted of the heavenly grace and then fallen away from it. That can also be forgiven if a person repents. The context of the passage is ascribing the devil to the works of God.

And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He (Jesus) has Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casts he out devils. And He called them unto Him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.

Have you ever heard a person say that if you speak in tongues, you have an evil spirit? That is speaking against the Holy Ghost but it can also be forgiven. For a pastor of a church to despise prophecy and forbid the word of the Lord to proceed to the congregation is speaking against the Holy Ghost. It is a very serious offense to actively oppose the moving of the Spirit, especially if it is being taught as doctrine, teachers have a greater responsibility to the truth. We have the same Spirit in us now that Jesus did then. If this is the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost that the Pharisees committed, then it is the same for us, there can be no other explanation except the accusation that the devil is causing the true manifestation of spiritual gifts and the power to cast out demons. Now I have seen love cover a multitude of sins. Is love enough to cover this type of blasphemy? If you are led by the Lord and hear His voice and speak the truth, you cannot come against spiritual gifts unless you take yourself out of the spirit and speak in the flesh, it happens all the time with Christian teachers that have the spirit but not in fullness.

How can anyone truly led by the Lord be able to quench His Holy Spirit unless it has been a foul spirit that does this? How can love deny the gifts of God in their brothers and sisters? They must be numbered with the transgressors but we are taught that if it is done in ignorance they may be forgiven. There will be many believers in the Kingdom, but a Heavenly calling? Many are called but few are chosen, and especially in these days when judgment is coming to the house of God - a danger of eternal damnation. To stand up for a lie is to reject the truth. Those that turn the truth of God into a lie are given over to a reprobate mind. These ignorant souls are now being asked to turn toward the truth, come to one accord and fill their lamps with the oil of the Holy Ghost so that they may meet the Bridegroom. If not, we can only conclude that they will be in danger of eternal damnation just like Jesus said.

Is it the sin unto death? Some say so, others say not. The text of the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is that one is "in danger" of eternal damnation, not an assurance of death.

And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. If any man sees a brother sin a sin, which is not unto death, he shall ask and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death, I do not say that he shall pray for it.
Saint Thomas wrote in his Summa Theologica that the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is not the sin unto death. The soon to be apostle Saul did not know what he was doing yet committed the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost but Paul said he received mercy concerning his blasphemy because he had done it "ignorantly in unbelief." The blasphemy against the Holy Ghost that Jesus is talking about then, must be something that is through willful knowledge of what is being done.

Saint Augustine taught that blasphemy, or the sin against the Holy Ghost, is final impenitence when a man perseveres in mortal sin until death. That is certainly cause for damnation but not in context with the passages. Many have tried to tie the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost to apostasy. Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is not in casting dispersions on Christianity or believing the gospel and then falling away, it is not that obvious, these things are already condemned. There are many false churches out there all thinking that they are doing God's will. To worship the god of Babylon in the name of Jesus diverts the attention away from the genuine move of the Spirit. By trying to conserve the original vision of whatever church and defending the traditions of men, they have been unable to discern God's true spirit in these last days. When confronted by the Spirit of truth, He is not recognized and then dismissed as evil, that is blasphemy.

The blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is seen in the worst of them that teach that spiritual gifts died in the apostolic age and those who are able to cast out demons are obtaining the power through the devil. This is exactly what they accused Jesus of and the church is full of these false teachers. The passage that they are referring to is I Corinthians 13:8-10, "Charity never fails, but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease, whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." The misunderstanding of this passage has split the church asunder, making the greater part ineffective and incomplete. Pastors and teachers are spreading this schism and it is taught in the Bible Colleges. This is one of the greatest errors of the church in that the perfect refers to the completed New Testament and that the sign gifts passed away in the first century. This is a Babylonian spirit that we must overcome in order to pull her down from her exalted position. This is actually one of the best examples of false doctrine that there is in the modern church because it denies the very spiritual power necessary to expose it as false.

Heresies must be manifested among us so that we can recognize truth from error but repentance is also necessary. Repentance is the greatest thing one can do to draw near to God. That's takes humility. Also love covers a multitude of sins. Even though you have blasphemed in the past, others are in ignorance or confusion and we are still to love them. Jesus loves them. Love them. And know that Jesus loves you and does not want you to perish. Those that cannot put away false doctrine so that we can come to one accord cannot be part of us, it is unfortunate but the only way." How can Satan cast out Satan?" These false teachers quench the spirit and blaspheme the Holy Ghost who is the giver of gifts; the kingdom has become divided against itself. More than missing out on God's fullness, they do themselves harm by rejecting God's spirit. It is not too late to get out of Babylon but the time is short.

As to the sin unto death, we can not be sure what it is. Just make sure that you know that for sure that you are not lost but found, that if you have repented that God has forgiven you and that you may have the assurance of eternal life if you continue in His will. Do not let this dissuade you from being all that God would have you be. Decided now that this is a closed issue and that God has accepted you. Do it now and do not let the adversary take it away by tempting you to doubt otherwise.

I really have to agree that many problems stem from the fact that someone has committed blasphemy. Because they bring it on themselves, it must also come through themselves to reverse what has happened. For those of you that this has happened to, all is not lost, in fact according to the laws of restoration, whatever has been lost, the Lord is willing to replace it with things that are even better than what they were before. Pride will be replaced with humility, good thing. Your disobedience will be replaced with obedience, excellent. Your doubt with now be faith, love will come, your hope will increase, the fruits of the spirit will bring you joy unspeakable and your relationship with others will be better. You must apply this law of restoration with all the enthusiasm that you can. It is your life we are dealing with and God believes that you are worth it.

Repentance is key so do it. Then you must realize that God has done the most He can do for in that He sent a sinless life to die for you so that your sins can be taken away. He loves you that much. He has also sent His Holy Spirit to help you in this, you are not alone and He has not forsaken you. He still loves you that much but now it is time for you to come to the cross and that means turning your back on any pity party. You have travailed, you have agonized, you have turned from your wicked ways and now is the time for restoration. What must be done now is to apply the faith that you have and believe with all of your heart that He is able to forgive you of everything that went on in the past. Everything, including the blasphemy. If you want to have some kind of unpardonable sin in that you committed what you think has made you guilty of this, then don't forget it but put in the past and do not let yourself be any thing less than what God wants you to be right now and that is His servant, His person of faith and integrity and holiness and carry on. If He wants that for you, which He does, then it is up to you to be that person by asking for His help. You cannot do it without Him, like I said, He is giving His Holy Spirit to you to as a helper, that means that you must walk in His Spirit and appropriate that power for it to work. He will be living His life through you from now on but it must be a whole life. Actually whether you can be forgiven of one little point in your life, a small insignificant happenstance compared to all of what is going on in the world is nothing compared to where the Lord wants you to be. He not only wants to take what you have done and put it into the realm of forgiveness and forgotten for all time, but to give you a new life, transformed into His likeness and glory.

I need you to make a decision right now to not be in the league with the devil. You have been because you have allowed him to torment you, this is usually more serious than the original sin committed, you have done just what he wanted by tormenting yourself. This is going to change and your body is going to change and your relationships are going to change. Also understand that this is going to make the devil mad and he will do what he can to stop it. He wants you but you need to make the choice not to give in to him. Jesus wants your soul too but it is up to you. Jesus never forces Himself on people but the devil will only force himself on us to the extent that we let him. Don't let that happen. You need to stand up as changed, never to return to the torment.

God bless you as you make these decisions and I will be praying for you. Stretch your hand out toward the monitor and release the faith necessary to receive what I have just prayed. Do it in Jesus' name and talk to Him right now.
